She was born in Silvermoon City to her human mother Naomi Grey, and her High Elf father Aion Starstrider. Aion already had a son of his own, Alexia's half brother Kurane Starstrider, and he never claimed Alexia as his own. He even cast her mother away, saying she and Alexia were his greatest mistake. She was disowned by her father, so she was raised mostly by Kurane. She grew up in Silvermoon until she was 15, and upon realizing she was different than the rest of the children in the city and struck out on her own. She drifted from village to village all across Lordaeron, stealing what she could in order to survive. She eventually made her way as far south to what is now known as Stormwind City. After trying to pickpocket a noblewoman and being caught, she was sentenced to hanging, only to be saved at the last moment by the woman she tried to steal from...who turned out to be her mother. From then on she lived with her mother until her death a few years later. Alexia went into a deep state of depression for months, until approached one night by her brother. The two lived together in Stormwind, Alexia had taken on the job of a contract killer and Kurane had enlisted in the Army.
This was around the time of the first Orcish invasion of Azeroth. Alexia and Kurane fought side by side until Kurane was called back to Quel'Thalas by their father. After the war, she was all alone again...until one day she received a letter from Kurane. She made her way back to Quel'Thalas just about the time of the Second War. She and Kurane once again fought together, this time serving as Rangers. After the war, Alexia moved back to Stormwind without her brother...he had been slain in the Battle of Tarren Mill.
A few years after the war, Alexia was contracted to assassinate a high ranking noble in Stormwind. Her plan went horribly wrong, and she was tossed over the side of a ship somewhere off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale. There she floated for a week until she was picked up by pirates and nursed back to health. She was forced to do hard labor on the ship, and was frequently raped by the ship's captain. She became pregnant and gave birth to a girl she named Emmaline. While the ship was docked in Southshore, Alexia was forced to give the girl to relatives of her mother in the town of Strahnbrad. She was held captive until after the Third War had ended when the captain decided she had outlived her usefulness. He went to attack her with his sword, only to have her dodge the attack and stab him in the back with his own boot knife. The crew, shocked and amazed, allowed her to return home. She returned to Stormwind, unknowing of any of the events of the Third War.
She then set out to find her lost daughter. She made her way to Strahnbrad only to find the town in ruin and overrun by the Syndicate. She feared the worst for Emmaline but continued her search. Her travels led her to Northshire Abbey where Emmaline had escaped to following the fall of Strahnbrad. She watched Emmaline from a distance for a while for fear of rejection by her, until one night she met a mage named Milamber Firkagg, who turned out to be Emmaline's magical tutor and mentor. Under his guidance, Alexia finally confronted Emmaline and told her the entire story. To her amazement, Emmaline understood and accepted her. They currently live together in Stormwind City.
